General (R) Buford C. Blount III, Chief Operating Officer  
   
General Blount was the Commanding General, 3d Infantry Division, in the spring of 2003 when he led his forces in defeating the Iraqi army and capturing Baghdad after 21 days of continuous fighting. As a leader in the US Army and an independent consultant, he has in-depth experience in consulting, management and team building and has extensive interface with senior defense and Congressional personnel. He is an experienced program manager and effective communicator with exceptional organizational, administrative, and people skills. General Blount retired from the Army on January 1, 2005 after successfully leading his troops in Iraq. As a Division Commander he organized, trained and led over 20,000 soldiers for combat in Iraq. As a Chief of Staff, he managed all aspects of day-to-day functions of an 18,000-person organization. He managed a $250 M budget, over three Military Installations, with 20,000 people and $2 B in assets. He prepared and presented multiple presentations on weapons and ammunition requirements to senior defense leadership, to Congressional committees and the media. He was serving as the Army’s Deputy G-3 since October 2003 and previously the commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized), out of Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Field in Georgia. Before his command, General Blount was stationed in Saudi Arabia for four years where he was the Program Manager for the Saudi Arabian National Guard Modernization Program. General Blount has served in a variety of command and staff positions throughout the world. A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, he was commissioned an armor officer in 1971. He is also a graduate of the U. S. Naval War College where he earned a Master of Science Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. His numerous awards include two Distinguished Service Medals and the Silver Star. In addition, General Blount has accepted a position as a Distinguished Guest Lecturer in National Defense and Strategic Studies at Southern Miss.
