The St. Bernard Parish Project is a two-pronged project involving the redevelopment of Hurricane Katrina damaged areas. The first is to operate waste management for the Parish. The second is to support the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office and their camp management. The project sites are located in Chalmette, Louisiana, along the outskirts of New Orleans in St. Bernard Parish County. The Sandi Group has an active interest in expanding our operations to other parts of the gulf coast. We have a long-term commitment to the area and we are seeking to further invest in commercial real estate development, construction and renovation, government services and the overall recovery of New Orleans and surrounding areas.
St. Bernard Parish Waste Mangement The waste management project is truly a feel-good story for the company. The Sandi Group met with the Parish and signed the contract on July 1, 2007. That gave us just three days to mobilize and get the work started. During the first week, we received zero complaints, which according to the Parish’s experience with other contractors, was absolutely unheard of. We are methodically cultivating a track record of producing equal and often superior results, while maintaining lower prices.
Emergency sanitary sewer removal was necessary for St. Bernard Parish after Hurricane Katrina’s floodwaters rendered the sewer treatment infrastructure inoperable. The safe and timely removal of raw sewage is performed with vacuum trucks operating on a twenty-four hour, seven day a week basis, where the sewage had to be manually removed from below the ground, loaded and transported to functioning facilities. There are approximately 20 to 30 trucks in service on any given day, operating 24 hours a day throughout two shifts removing approximately 50,000 tons per week. This type of project, to our knowledge, has not been previously done in the United States, where the sewage had to be manually removed from below the ground, loaded and transported to a working treatment facility.
